Through hip-hop theater the piece shines a light on the colonial past of the Netherlands. In 2023, it will be 160 years since the Netherlands legally abolished slavery in Suriname and the Caribbean Netherlands. Ten years later, compulsory labor years also came to an end. What do we actually know about this? And how do we deal with it now?

Rapping and bouncing to the beat, Vainergill and Kelsey bounce through the classroom. This isn't a history lesson about the past. This is about now, about you, and about how our lives are still shaped by our past. We don't shy away from serious topics, but we also laugh together.

SCHIJN is an interactive performance played in classrooms at high schools and MBO.
