Ochtenddauw
Ochtenddauw, is a captivating duet between dance and saxophone, exploring and pushing the boundaries of expression and emotion. In this 30-minute performance, the vibrant and expressive sounds of saxophonist Diana Dzhabbar, a mix of traditional jazz, soul, ambient, hip hop and modern music, engage in dialogue with the explosive movements of Vainergill Thurnim, whose roots lie in West African dance aesthetics and (urban) contemporary styles. Together, they create a dynamic and confrontational interplay where repressed emotions find space to unfold. For choreographer Vainergill, anger is the underlying emotion, but the performance delves into a broader complexity of feelings that are often suppressed or hidden.
The vulnerability of the night, when emotions tend to feel more intense, forms the core of Ochtenddauw. Yet, just as morning dew emerges when night transitions into day, so too does emotional intensity transform. The performance takes the audience on a journey where anger is no longer seen as purely negative but as a necessary force clearing the way for something new and healing. Ochtenddauw invites reflection on the power and value of expressing emotions we often wish to conceal and how that expression can become a source of personal and collective transformation.
